Hello and welcome back! We continue our discussion about cannabis seeds with an introduction to short strains that are great for a grow room or grow tent. Our recommendations may be small, but they pack a punch!
First things first: Common Concerns when buying cannabis seeds online
IS IT SAFE TO ORDER CANNABIS SEEDS THROUGH THE MAIL?
People always wonder about the legal risk of purchasing cannabis seeds through the mail. Legitimate seed vendors (including those we recommend) ship discreetly to most locations. Seeds can be stopped by customs, but this doesn’t happen often. You also want to make sure that wherever you decide to purchase your seeds will also ship to your country. This information should be transparent and available on the vendor’s website.
WHERE CAN I BUY CANNABIS SEEDS SAFELY?
There are a number of good seed vendors out there. Our recommendations are established companies with great customer reviews so you know you’re purchasing quality cannabis seeds.
BEWARE OF CANNABIS SEED SCAMS
If you’re contacted via social media to purchase seeds, chances are you’ve been targeted for a scam. We recommend using established cannabis seed vendors such as those linked below.
So you’ve set up your grow. You’ve got lights, soil, all your nutrients, proper airflow, now you just need to decide what strain you’d like to grow. While there are many variables to consider - regular vs. autoflowering, feminized or non-feminized, Sativa vs. Indica - there’s one that you may not have considered, and that is the size of your growing space. So why consider the space, Cannabis is Cannabis, right? Not exactly. As a general rule of thumb, Sativa dominant seeds will grow into taller plants than those you cultivate from Indica seeds. Again, this is a general rule, but it’s an important thing to consider when you’re planning which Cannabis strain to grow. So today what we’ve got for you are a mix of strains that will be ideal for your small grow.
A couple considerations regarding Cannabis seeds
Feminized Seeds
If you don’t know what feminized seeds are, they are cannabis seeds that have been treated with colloidal silver or a silver thiosulfate solution that causes them to be “feminine” or female. Why is this important to you? Well, with feminized seeds you can be certain that the seeds you purchase will produce flowers (buds) when they mature, rather than releasing pollen which s what mature males do. So the advantage is two-fold, you won’t have to discard your male plants because you won’t have any, and you can be sure that the plants you grow will provide you a seedless harvest.
Autoflowering Seeds
Unlike “regular” cannabis seeds which begin to flower when we the indoor grower changes the light cycle, autoflowering seeds require no change in the light cycle and will begin to flower when they’re old enough. It’s important to also mention that autoflowering seeds tend to bud faster than those that require a change in the photoperiod so they’re great cannabis seeds if you’re short on time (or maybe just a little impatient, like me!)
Afghan Hash Plant Feminized Cannabis Seeds
Afghan Hash Plant is a popular strain from Canuk Seeds. This pure landrace Indica strain has a spicy, hashy aroma with a woody taste and undertones of vanilla. These seeds are feminized but not autoflowering so you will have to shorten the light cycle when the plants are ready for flowering. Afghan Hash Plant will flower in 8-9 weeks and if you are using cannabis medicinally, it’s a great strain for the treatment of anxiety, depression, insomnia, lack of appetite, and pain. This one is a heavy hitter with up to 24% THC.
Blue Cheese Feminized Cannabis Seeds
Blue Cheese is an Indica/Sativa hybrid known for its copious amounts of resin. This short strain tops out at 80cm and has been stabilized for consistent characteristics, including its pungent aroma. Blue Cheese flowers in 8 weeks and has a high level of THC. You need these feminized seeds!
Sweet Tooth Autoflowering Feminized Cannabis Seeds
This short strain was bred by crossing Sweet Tooth with Lowryder #2. Sweet Tooth autoflowering cannabis seeds provide a larger yield than most autoflowering varieties, and takes about 10 weeks to go from seed to flower. Sweet Tooth’s buds are sugar coated with trichomes (hence the name) and it’s a great strain for headaches and stress, or it’s great just for a chill night on the couch.
White Widow Autoflowering Feminized Seeds
The classic White Widow is now available as an autoflowering feminized strain. The frosted white buds are a hallmark of this strain and an indication of it’s powerful effects. Known for a powerful feeling of euphoria, White widow is great for socializing with friends or just getting a creative boost. This one flowers in 8 weeks and has a THC content of over 20%.
Original Afghani #1 Regular Seeds
The last cannabis seed on our list is not an autoflower or feminized. This means you’ll have to give a little more TLC when you grow. First, since it is not feminized, you’ll need to remove any males before they reach maturity and can pollinate your females. Secondly, since it’s not autoflowering, you’ll have to change up the light cycle when you’re plants are ready to flower. However, if this doesn’t sound too daunting, Original Afghani #1 seeds flower in only about fifty days and have a mid-high THC level at 17%. And since this is one of the few original, stable landrace Indicas, Original Afghani #1 is also great if you’re looking to do your own cross breeding.

When you buy feminized seeds you can be confident that nearly 100% of your plants will be female. Feminized seeds are definitely worth the price if the idea of sexing your plants and removing the males isn't for you.
What strains are good for growing marijuana indoors? What seed strains are good for growing marijuana outdoors?
There are many good strains suited for indoor growing and just as many good seed strains for outdoor cultivation. You have to consider the space you’re growing in. Outdoor marijuana strains will grow tall and may not be suitable for you indoor grow. The main consideration when deciding between indoor and outdoor is the amount of space. An “outdoor” strain will grow fine indoors, as long as it has enough room.
What’s the difference between regular marijuana seeds and feminized marijuana seeds?
Feminized seeds have been bred and treated to nearly 100% female. They cost a bit more but you don’t have to worry about throwing out the half of your plants that turn out male.
