Zygosity

Zygosity is a measurement of the similarity of two alleles for the same gene. In organisms such as humans which have two sets of chromosomes, each parent provides one set of alleles. If the two alleles differ, the child is called “heterozygous” for that gene. If the two alleles are identical, the child is “homozygous.”
