Heterosis, commonly referred to as Hybrid Vigor, is a positive condition where a mix of two different “purebred” individuals will produce an offspring of mixed genetics who has better-than-average phenotypic expression. In dogs, for example, heterosis is commonly observed in “mutts” who have mixed heritage. Mutts tend to be smarter, healthier, and more resilient than their purebred relatives.

In cannabis, this means that two purebred strains, when crossed together, should produce an individual who expresses the most positive aspects of both those strains.
